Abstract
A latching mechanism permits a swing-away foot rest assembly on a wheelchair to be selectively latched into a use position extending forwardly from the wheelchair. Mating connectors are provided on the foot rest assembly and the frame of the wheelchair which are movable relative to one another by a transverse rocking pin which rocks about an upright lever axis in two directions to permit the latching mechanism to be released by deflecting a release lever coupled to the rocking pin in either one of two opposing directions. The release lever can be coupled to the rocking pin in a plurality of different orientations in the use position to suit the user. Camming faces on the connectors automatically align and load the mating connectors into an engaged position when the foot rest assembly approaches the use position from any one of multiple different directions. The camming faces also permit the connectors to be mated with one another in a wedging action to improve rigidity of the foot rest assembly in the latched position.
Abstract
A wheelchair lift for use in conjunction with a vehicle having a floor. The lift includes a power actuating system, a platform assembly having first and second platform sections, and a linking assembly connecting the power actuating system to the platform assembly. The linking assembly includes first and second vertical arms connected to the platform assembly. The platform assembly is movable between a fully extended configuration, a pre-stowed position and a stowed position. The first and second vertical arms are a first distance apart when the platform assembly is in the fully extended configuration and the pre-stowed position and a second distance apart when the platform assembly is in the stowed position. The second distance is less than the first distance.
Abstract
An improved wheelchair trainer with independent flywheel resistance for each wheelchair rear wheel. A lever-operated cam raises the wheelchair rear axle by pushing an inclined block against the axle and forces the rear wheels against wheel engagement means. As one or both rear wheels are turned, each wheel engagement means turns a flywheel in proportion to the speed of the wheel. Force and work may be calculated from the measured rotational speed of the flywheels. A hand-cycle attachment may drive the flywheel resistance.
Abstract
An apparatus for assisting a wheelchair user in turning the wheel in a manually propelled wheelchair. The apparatus comprises a plurality of ball shaped members, such plurality of ball shaped members being divided in substantially symmetrical halves. There is a groove disposed at a predetermined location on an inner surface of each half of the plurality of ball shaped members for engaging a hand rim of such wheelchair and a threaded means for securing each half of the plurality of ball shaped members to the other half of the plurality of ball shaped members. |
